Italy is all history and history Italy. It
has the highest number of UNESCO marked
heritage sites. Venice has been seen too much especially through the
eyes of Amitabh Bachhan and Zeenat Amaan and now it is your turn to experience
the same but only better. The main Venetian island , St. Marks, is just a
twenty minute boat ride away. The ride
to the island presents incredible vistas to the tourists and the highly
unpredictable weather of the same always stores within the charm of the sea.
The main plaza, Plaza De San Marco, is inhabited by one of the oldest
Basiclica’s in the world by the same name and is a manifesto of the authentic
Italian architecture . The entire square branches out to various other Venetian
streets which has some really fantastic shops for ones shopping free. The main
square has an absolutely surreal open restaurant with tranquil music playing
all the while . Any gelato parlour in Italy is worth visiting because the
gelatos there are absolutely sumptuous especially the one near the Trevi
fountain in Rome. The Gondola ride through the water streets is obviously a
must since we have been mesmerized by it since forever , although I would
recommend you to not ask the gondolian to sing! The rides takes you to the
inner part of the island and then to the main sea where’s situated the house of
the famous Marco Polo and the A-ponte bridge. An evening in Venice is as
amazing as that in Paris.
In order to be completely enamored by the
European catholic tradition , one must visit the Vatican city where the clergy
and the rest of the population still converse in the rich antiquity of Latin.
It has the largest and most sublime Basilica, St. Pedro , of them all ; absolutely
beautiful and nothing of the sort that one would normally encounter in a sacred
place. It has its very own museum and an original Michelangelo sculpture ,
whose very look mesmerizes the onlooker.
Rome as a city is historically situated
still in the olden times. Everything seems to come alive when one visits Rome
and beholds almost two thousand year old marvels of architecture. The Colosseum
, the Trevi fountain, the Colina Capitolina , all rich with remains of history.
Of all the cities that I have visited , Rome remains particulary archaic and
modern. Modern because the stores in Rome presents the best and the latest
fashions . The street , Via Corso, is charming with number of art and music activities going on
on the very streets of Rome; people playing bass , painting , dancing , selling
and what not , its as if it’s a mini Roman fair ! ALSO, the street leading to
the Trevi fountain has a really good café right across the café which sells fantastic
ice – blends of coffees, a visit to the eatery must not evade your itinerary!
Florence has plenty of sculptures and it’s
a hub of original Michelangelo . Again , plentily historic and great
symmetrical architecture . But what is completely confounding is the open air
museums of Florence ;
-
The former San Marco Convent, with its range of Fra Angelico frescoes
- The Last Supper in the former Convent of Santa Apollonia
- The Sassetti Chapel
- The Tombs in in the Santa Croce
- The Uffizi
